PhD ADVICE
Doctoral research asks for a different kind of support than coursework — sustained, over years, and oriented toward an original contribution rather than a finished assignment.
PhD Advice offers guidance for doctoral candidates and prospective applicants working at the intersection of architecture, design research, and spatial theory. This draws on a doctoral degree from ETH Zürich, using actor-network theory to study informal urbanism in Brazil, together with years of leading advanced research programs — directing the Master of Advanced Architecture at ETH Zürich, the collective housing research unit at Yokohama National University's Y-GSA, and design-build research at Hong Kong University — and on the Swiss National Science Foundation-funded research project Housing the Co-op, conducted from 2015 to 2018.
